So you didn't believe your mom when she said you'd regret getting that tattoo -- the multicolored, fire-breathing dragon that starts at the small of your back, or your girlfriend's name etched around your arm.   Now, you have a shot at a terrific job or are marrying the love of your life, and a moment of youthful self-expression could create problems in your new career or marriage.

Tattoos have become part of American mainstream culture over the past couple of decades. Some estimate that more than 10 million Americans have at least one tattoo, and there are about 4,000 tattoo studios now in business in the United States.  Fortunately, there are several methods for tattoo removal which have proven successful. In most cases, however, some scarring or color variations remain.

The conspicuousness of these blemishes depends upon several factors including size, location, the individual's healing process, how the tattoo was applied, and length of time it has been on the skin.

A tattoo performed by a more experienced tattoo artist, for example, may be easier to remove since the pigment is evenly injected in the same level of the skin. A tattoo that has been on the skin for a considerable length of time may be more difficult to remove than a new one.

In recent times, many medical specialists consider laser surgery one of the best methods of tattoo removal.  At Glo MedSpa, we offer a medical setting with our laser specialists using the highest quality Q Switch Yag Laser with remarkable results.

Pulses of light from the laser are directed onto the tattoo breaking up the tattoo pigment. Over the next several weeks the body's scavenger cells remove the treated pigmented areas. More than one treatment is usually necessary to remove all of the tattoo.

If necessary, a cream to numb the skin can be applied prior to the treatment.

Can my tattoo be removed?

Every tattoo is different, so no service available today can guarantee 100% success or zero skin discoloration. Our certified laser technician uses the most advanced technology available to achieve the highest success rates around for tattoo removal, and all tattoos can be at least significantly reduced in their appearance. The newest technology keeps scarring risk to a minimum, but there always remains a theoretical possibility of scarring with any laser system. The Q-Clear laser provides maximum tattoo removal while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed.

How Does Tatoo Removal Work?

Lasers work by directing energy toward ink in the skin with highly concentrated colored light beams. These laser beams break up ink particles into tiny fragments which are later cleared up by the body's scavenging cells.  This process of fragmenting the ink particles requires numerous sessions depending on the depth of the ink level.  The procedure is bloodless and no incisions are made.  With deeper penetration of the skin and multiple sessions however, the heat generated by the lasers may cause pain and blister formation. Even though laser technology is refined, the chance of scarring is always present with multiple treatments.

Who Is A Candidate For Laser Tattoo Removal?

Individuals with fair skin and superficially placed tattos on the arms, chest, buttocks or legs are the best candidates.  Tattoos on dark skinned individuals, or tattoos on the ankles or fingers, areas where there is less bod fat, are the most difficult to treat and results are more variable.  A thorough discussion with a Tattoo Removal specialist can better determine the potential success rate of Laser Tatoo Removal for any given tattoo and skin type. Consulting with a professional and reputable Tattoo Removal Specialist who is experienced and understands the procedure is important to ensure proper treatment and  success.

What Determines The Success Of Tattoo Removal?

Complete removal of a Tatoo is based on several things.  The size of the tattoo, the application, the location, your age, and color of the Tattoo all factor in, as well as the health of the patient and thus their body's ability to heal from the Tattoo removal.  Newer tattoos are generally more difficult to remove.
