Dewy, resiliant, soft skin is very much associated with a youthful visage. As we grow older, the body loses its ability to maintain the same concentration of many of the components within younger skin that give it that coverted, full look.
Hyaluronan (hyaluronic acid, HA) is one of those major components. Within the skin, HA is involvedin tissue repair. When skin is sunburned, it becomes inflamed and the cells in the bottom layers of the skin, the dermis, stop producing as much collagen, elastin and hyaluronan, and increase the rate of its degradation. This is problematic on many levels, not only does HA help keep skin plump and hydrated, it is also a key component of tissue repair and wound healing. The more the skin is exposed to the sun, the more the HA is damaged, therefore less HA is available assist in keeping skin not only acting youthful (resiliance and healing) but LOOKING youthful!! With decreasing levels of HA in the skin, so goes the ability of the skin to hold water. The result, the skin becomes drier and loses its ability to maintain it’s hydration. Another reason to stay hydrated, drink your water!
Hyaluronic acid acts as a space filler by binding to water and thus keeping the skin wrinkle-free. Hyaluronic acid and collagen also comprise the outter layers of the lips giving them that give the structure (shape) and plumpness that we associate with ‘youth’.
“So…Glo Med, tell me how can I ‘plump up the volume’?”
In the Treatment Room
Expect an enire arsenal of options from the professionals. Aside from dermal fillers such as Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm, regular facial treatments can go a long way in maintaining skins volume. One of our offerings at Glo Med is the SkinCeuticals hydrating mask that delivers both hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5. “It contains vitamin B5 in two configurations: panthenol and calcium pantothenate,” says Sonja Anderson, director of new-product development. “These two ingredients help improve the continuous regeneration of the skin, play a role in tissue repair and attract water to the outer layer of the skin.”.
For instant plumping of the skin, an application of pure oxygen is sprayed on the skin with a topical dose of Vitamins A, C & E. This application of oxygen will speed healing by regenerating and renewing the skin cells.
At home care
Aside from a healthy, balanced diet, lots of clean water and a good sun care protocol, there are a plethora of creams and locations that can offer visible improvements in plumpness and smoothness of skin, through hydration and moisture retention.
