Patients in search of skin tightening that are not ready for surgery quite yet have a solution at Glo Medspa. Our office features the innovative Ultherapy device, which uses ultrasonic energy to firm and tighten skin. The procedure has become relatively comfortable and requires no downtime. Combined with Pro-Nox, which manages discomfort, patients often achieve their aesthetic goals in a single treatment session. If you are ready to turn back the clock on those early signs of aging, Ultherapy may be a good choice for you.

Tried and True Technology

Ultrasound is a technology that has been used in the medical field for decades. The device generates sound waves that allow for imaging inside the body for both diagnostics and treatment purposes. It is most familiar for its ability to visualize a growing baby during pregnancy, allowing doctors to monitor growth and detect potential problems in utero safely. This noninvasive technology is entirely safe with few, if any, side effects.

Now, ultrasound energy can also be delivered into the dermal structure, stimulating the body’s own rejuvenation process. The energy heats the inner dermal layers to produce additional collagen naturally. Collagen is an essential protein found in abundance in the dermis during our youth, giving the skin its smooth, supple appearance. As we age, collagen levels begin to decline, resulting in loose, sagging skin and the formation of wrinkles. By restoring collagen, we can also effectively reverse those signs of aging by firming and smoothing the skin’s surface.

Getting to the Source of the Problem

Ultherapy offers greater benefits than other methods of nonsurgical skin tightening, which is why this is the sole noninvasive treatment approved by the FDA to lift the skin in select treatment areas. It has also been cleared to rejuvenate the chest or décolleté. The ability to work deeper into the dermal structure without disrupting the outer surface of the skin produces dramatic skin-tightening results without the need for anesthesia during or downtime after treatment.

In addition to its ability to penetrate deeper into the dermal layers, Ultherapy provides the additional benefits of allowing the provider to see precisely where the energy is delivered. Ultrasound imaging is also used during the procedure, ensuring the heat is targeted to just where it is needed to have the most significant effect. Other treatments rely on the surgeon to estimate the best location, which results in a less consistent outcome overall.

Is Ultherapy Right for You?

Ultherapy is an effective treatment for men and women with mild to moderate skin laxity. The therapy has been FDA-approved to firm and tighten the following areas:

  • Brow and forehead to lift the brow line (nonsurgical brow lift)
  • Chin to create definition and restore a youthful facial profile
  • Neck to smooth away lines and eliminate the turkey neck appearance
  • Décolleté to reduce the appearance of lines and create a firmer look

This treatment is not advised for people with skin laxity that has become severe. In these cases, a surgical lift will likely be needed to produce the results the patient wants. However, addressing laxity in its earlier stages allows for effective nonsurgical therapies that can significantly prolong the need for any surgery. Our expert team will assess your skin condition to determine whether Ultherapy can help you reach your cosmetic goals.

Fast Treatment, No Downtime

The day of your Ultherapy treatment, you will be given a topical anesthetic to keep you comfortable during the procedure. Additionally, we have adopted the use of Pro-Nox, which is a combination of oxygen and nitrous oxide that is inhaled. Dentists have used this technology for years. Ultrasound gel is also applied to the treatment area, which allows the transducer to work more effectively. The handheld applicator is then placed on the surface of the skin and moved slowly across the treatment are to deliver the ultrasound energy where it is needed. The same applicator also produces the ultrasound imaging, so your provider knows precisely where the power is placed within the dermal structure.

Patients describe this treatment as comfortable for the most part, particularly when a numbing cream is applied beforehand. There can be sensations of heat as the ultrasound energy is delivered, but these usually last just a few seconds. The entire procedure will last about 90 minutes, depending on the number of areas that will be addressed during the session.

There is no recovery period after an Ultherapy treatment, which means you should be able to return to work or resume other activities as soon as your appointment has ended. The only side effects that are occasionally seen after Ultherapy are mild swelling and redness in the treatment area. The results are minor and do not typically last more than a day or two. You should not have to worry about noticeable signs that you just had a cosmetic treatment performed.

Long-Lasting Results

Although you may see positive results from your Ultherapy treatment session right away, the full outcome will likely take two or three months to become evident. By that time, collagen production will have kicked in, and your skin should sport a more youthful glow with a visible reduction in skin laxity and fine lines. These results may last for up to two years before you need another treatment session to prolong your new look.
