As we age, our skin will lose collagen stores leading to skin laxity and loss of facial volume. This can make many people look older than they feel. A thread lift using PDO threads is a fantastic option for individuals who are looking to rejuvenate their facial appearance, without undergoing surgery. A thread lift can treat many areas of the face, including the jaw, cheeks, around the eyes, and neck.

What are PDO Threads?

A thread lift is a cosmetic procedure done to lift the skin, without traditional facial surgery. PDO threads are a type of suture used during a thread lift procedure. PDO threads have been used in surgical settings since the 1980s and are made of a colorless polyester that breaks down in the body over time. The presence of PDO threads in the skin triggers collagen production resulting in improved skin structure and elasticity.

Overall, there are three different types of PDO threads including:

·       PDO screw threads: Sutures that are made up of one or two intertwined threads to restore volume.

·       PDO cog threads: Sutures that contain small barbs that latch into the skin to provide support and lift.

·       PDO mono threads: Smooth sutures that stimulate collagen production.

The PDO Thread Treatment Process

The thread lift procedure is performed using local anesthesia, which means that patients will be awake but will not feel any discomfort. Small incisions will be created in the treatment area, and the threads will be placed to achieve the desired results.

There is little to no downtime required following a thread lift. However, we do advise patients to avoid rubbing their faces vigorously while applying skincare products for at least one week after treatment. It is also important to avoid sleeping directly on your face. Results can last anywhere from 1-3 years.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

PDO threads are hypodermic needles preloaded with a synthetic monofilament suture containing Polydioxanone (PDO). The PDO suture stimulates neocollagenesis, helping us replace lost collagen! Polydioxanone is FDA-approved and is some of the safest material that can be used in the body. Over a period of 4-6 months, your skin will fully absorb the PDO threads (sutures) without leaving any scar tissue.

PDO threads are inserted into the skin with sterile needles or cannulas. Once inserted, your provider will “zip” up sagging skin onto the barbed threads, providing you with an instant lift! Multiple barbed threads are used on each side of the face for a facelift or neck lift. Smooth threads target fine lines and wrinkles and can help replace lost collagen in many areas of the body. You may feel the threads under your skin until they have dissolved. Depending on the areas treated, the procedure may take 30-60 minutes to contour. There may be slight discomfort during the procedure, but because of the improved techniques and use of lidocaine, clients experience less pain.

Ideal candidates are experiencing facial volume loss, sagging skin on the face or neck, jowling, or general collagen depletion in the face or body.

Treatments are safe and the side effects are rare. Our PDO threads and cannulas are FDA cleared, sterile, and inserted by highly trained medical professionals. We take pride in staying up to date on the safest, most effective insertion techniques.
